What is Antimicrobial Footwear?
As the world is constantly changing, we too need to change our habits to continue to maintain a healthy lifestyle. New studies from the World Health Organization show that Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) threatens the effective prevention and treatment of numerous infections caused by bacteria and viruses. As we know, it is better to be proactive when it comes to illness rather than reactive, which is why we have always included antimicrobials in our Showaflops for the past 10 years.
So, what are antimicrobials? According to the National Pesticide Information Center, antimicrobial products kill or slow the spread of microorganisms. Microorganisms include bacteria, viruses, protozoans, and fungi such as mold and mildew. You may find antimicrobial products in your home, workplace, or school.
Why did we decide to use antimicrobials in our footwear? Gyms, spas, community pools, school locker rooms, dorms, nursing homes, campgrounds, and travel rest stops are just a few of the common places that have communal showers. It is indisputable that communal and public showers are prime breeding grounds for those scary invisible germs that can make your feet very sick. By adding antimicrobial technology in our Showaflops, this allows our product to resist the growth of odor-causing microbes, as well as the transfer and growth of bacteria and fungus on the soles.
Given the pandemic, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention stated that communal bathrooms and showers should be cleaned after every use. When it comes to shared spaces it is common to be skeptical about whether or not it has been properly disinfected. In the age of COVID-19, wearing antimicrobial footwear is an extra step you can take to protect yourself from the spread of bacteria.
