Flops for a Cause
Flops for a Cause / Helping People (and Animals) in Need!
At Showaflops, it is our mission to help those in need through our program, Flops for a Cause. Showaflops has donated thousands of flip flops to help the families affected by Hurricane Harvey through Island Harvest, and we continue to help those affected by the recent natural disasters.
We encourage you to do whatever you can – however big or small – to help those who have lost their homes and most of their possessions. We would greatly appreciate if you consider donating to one of these organizations:
Happy children going off to camp and teenagers are excited to embark on the new experience of going to college. These are the customers that have helped us build our business, and we appreciate them. Unfortunately, not all children and teens are able to have that same experience.
At Showaflops, we are invested in helping children that are battling Cancer. We donate our flops to the children of Camp Good Days, so that when they shower, they can be better protected against bacteria and fungus that they are exposed to on shower floors. Camp Good Days is a nonprofit dedicated to improving the lives of those touched by cancer and other life threatening illnesses.
Camp Good Days was one of the original camps to start a program where children with cancer would be away from the sterile environment of a hospital, and it has now become one of the largest in the country. They even have weeks when they fly in children with cancer from other countries. Camp Good Days has made an impact on over 44,000 campers from 28 different countries and 22 different states. When Gary Mervis started Camp Good Days 35 years ago, he made a promise that the services provided by Camp Good Days would be free. “I wanted parents not to have to worry about making their car payment or sending their children to camp,” said Mervis. “The only way we can provide our services is with the thousands of donors and volunteers that continue to allow us to provide some good days and special times for kids who need it the most.”
Immune systems are compromised when battling this dreaded disease. We hope that in some small way we can bring a smile to the campers of Camp Good Days by keeping them comfy and germ free in the shower. Cancer is an enemy that touches all of us, whether directly or indirectly, and an enemy that this year will kill 600,000 of our mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters and in far too many cases, our children.
The time has come to focus on the war on cancer, and each and every one of us can be a soldier in that effort. If you know anyone that has been touched by cancer, or even if you don’t, please help us to support this amazing cause. Camp Good Days lets kids and teens feel as if they are healthy again. They do this by giving their campers a normal summer experience surrounded by other kids going through the exact same obstacles as they are. In order for the campers to be able to continue their treatments and have the constant medical attention that they require, Camp Good Days provides volunteer nurses and additional staff in order to make campers feel safe and provide them with the medication they need while having one of the best weeks of their lives.

Showaflops donates flops to Sunrise Day Camps, which are the world’s only dedicated day camps for children with cancer and their siblings, provided completely free of charge.
Providing memorable summers since 2006 for children ages 3 –16, Sunrise Day Camps bring the simple pleasures of childhood back to children struggling with cancer, changing months of loneliness and isolation into summers filled with sunshine, laughter and happiness. And because Sunrise is a day camp, it does all this while allowing the children to continue their medical treatment and enjoy the comfort and safety of their own homes at night.
There are currently seven Sunrise Day Camps — Three in New York: Long Island, Pearl River & Staten Island. Horizon Day Camp in Baltimore, MD. Three in Israel: Beit Yehoshua, Be’er Sheva, Ramat Yochanan.
Sunrise Day Camps are currently affiliated with 30 renowned hospitals and medical centers.
Camp continues throughout the year with Sunrise Sundays and Sunrise Fun-days during school holiday breaks, giving campers an opportunity to reunite, make new friends and have a wonderful camp experience every season of the year!
And that’s not all! Clinic days for children undergoing treatment are often long and difficult for both the children and their families. Sunrise has changed that with Sunrise on Wheels, a one-of-a-kind program that provides hours of Sunrise-fun to children undergoing treatment in pediatric oncology units of participating hospitals. A tie-dyed trunk filled with toys and games is rolled into the waiting room turning a dreary day into one of magic and fun. If a child is hospitalized for any reason, one of the Sunshine from Sunrise staff or volunteers will visit with plenty of smiles and even a bag of goodies.
Sunrise Day Camps are proud members of the Sunrise Association, whose mission is to bring back the joys of childhood to children with cancer and their siblings world-wide, through the creation of Sunrise Day Camps, Year-Round Programs and In-Hospital Recreational Activities, all offered free of charge.
